History
The Cal Sailing Club is a non-profit public cooperative. Though we share the name, we are no longer associated with Cal. All the way back in nineteen-ought-something-or-other Cal ran an aquatic center in the Berkeley Marina, which served a collegiate race team, offered lessons, and a public, recreational sailing program. Around 1970 the program's three separate arms split into separate legal entities, each acquiring it's own facility and equipment. The Cal Race team moved to the Treasure Island sailing center, the university boating classes became Cal Adventures (currently right next door to CSC) and the recreational sailing program became the Cal Sailing Club, currently located on the south side of the Berkeley Marina. Since then the club has acquired a large fleet of versatile and exciting dinghies, a sturdy fleet of keelboats, and throngs of high performance wind-surfing gear. The club's core mission to teach boating safety to the community has never changed.
