The Branciforte Small Schools Campus, created in 2004, is a group of four schools housed in the former Branciforte Elementary School. The schools that share the campus are Ark Independent Studies (grades 9-12), Alternative Family Education (grades K-12), Costanoa High School (grades 10-12), and Monarch Community School (grades K-6). In all, about 450 students call the campus home.
All of the schools are aimed at students who may benefit from an alternative to the traditional public school system. The mission of Branciforte Small Schools is "to create and sustain alternatives to traditional public school models, where childhood and adolescence are celebrated, children and youth feel connected and respected, and each individual works toward his or her personal best academically, emotionally, socially, artistically, and culturally."
