Founded in 1888 as an orphanage, Five Acres, The Boys' and Girls' Aid Society of Los Angeles County is one of the oldest, nonsectarian child abuse agencies in the San Gabriel Valley in California. The agency provides residential and mental health care services in homes and schools. It also offers foster care, adoption and domestic violence prevention services. Five Acres, The Boys' and Girls' Aid Society of Los Angeles County administers several community-based and residential programs. The agency works with a team of more than 450 staff members and over 370 volunteers. It serves nearly 4,700 children and adults in Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange and San Bernardino counties in California. Five Acres, The Boys' and Girls' Aid Society of Los Angeles County conducts several therapeutic family support programs. The agency offers counseling services for children and families in English and Spanish, as well as American Sign Language. It is affiliated with the American Association of Children's Residential Centers, California Association of Private Special Education Schools, and Child Welfare League of America. Five Acres, The Boys' and Girls' Aid Society of Los Angeles County has received the Apex Grand Award for the Publication Excellence Competition. It has a residential treatment center that includes a playground, swimming pool, dining hall, auditorium, residential cottages, and sports and recreational areas. The center provides psychological and psychiatric services. The agency is accredited by the Council on Accreditation.
