Garfield Medical Center has a long history of excellent patient care. Established in 1927, Garfield Medical Center has been recognized as one of Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area's Best Hospitals by both governmental and independent quality groups as well as U.S. News and World Report. 1927: Dr. I.M. Feldcamp formed Garfield Hospital with 24 beds 1966: Garfield expanded to 99 beds 1971: Hospital tower constructed 1973: 500 N. Garfield Ave. medical office building opened 1977: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit added 1984: OB Department expansion 1988: 600 N. Garfield Ave. medical office building opened 2002: New Emergency Department building opened 2003: Cardiac Catherization Lab expansion completed 2005: Garfield Medical Center acquired by AHMC Healthcare 2011: AHMC International Cancer Center began service 2013: Hospital-wide patient room renovation
