History
During World War II, the Mare Island Recreation Association (M.I.R.A.) was formed to entertain military personnel. Back in those days, the repertoire was mainly show girls. After the war, the performers decided to continue, and received permission to use the word Mira, the name of the star Omicron Ceti. Thus the Mira Theatre Guild was formed. The Guild staged theater productions at various locations, always outgrowing the venue. Subsequently, the Guild acquired the Bay Terrace Theater as their permanent home.
