Mixing sweet, fuzzy pets with cold, hard numbers does not sound like a recipe for success, but Animal Outreach is proving otherwise. As part of the 3-month ASPCA $100K Challenge, Animal Outreach is creating quite a stir. They are one of 50 finalist shelters in the Challenge, which awards grant money based on their performance in various areas from Aug 1 - Oct 31.One of the most arduous hurdles is that each shelter must adopt out at least 300 more animals than it had during the same period in 2011.For AO, that meant finding homes for 861 cats and dogs. This would be a daunting task for any small and relatively unknown non-profit, but is even more so in an economy where so many can’t afford to keep the pets they already have.AO adopted out more than 1700 pets during the competition establishing them as one of the lead contenders for grant prizes.“This has challenged us to find new ways to attract adopters, to reach out to more people and to save more lives. We’re not stopping now!”
