Established in 1946, American Institutes for Research is a nonprofit organization conducting behavioral and social science research on social issues and delivers technical assistance, both domestically and internationally. It is one of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world. Its work covers a wide range of areas, such as education, student assessment, international education, individual and organizational performance, health research and communication, human development, usability design and testing and employment equity. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., it has offices in California, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Ohio. The organization also has international offices in Brazil, Egypt, Haiti, Zambia and South Africa.
