The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses promotes the health and welfare of people experiencing critical illness or injury by advancing the art and science of critical care nursing. The association was established in 1969 and is the world s largest specialty nursing organization, representing more than 400,000 critical-care nurses. The AACN operates the National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition, which feature educational sessions on more than 250 topics and are attended by more than 6,000 nurses each year. It also publishes the multidisciplinary American Journal of Critical Care, a peer-reviewed scientific and research journal. The association is based in Aliso Viejo, Calif.
