Dr. Ali Mahtabifard is a UCI Health surgeon who is board-certified in general and cardiothoracic surgery. He specializes in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, and is an expert in leading-edge treatments for lung cancer and lung metastases, esophageal cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), as well as mediastinal, chest wall and airway disorders. He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y. He completed a general surgery internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York, followed by a general surgery residency at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. He completed a two-year research fellowship in thoracic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and a cardiothoracic fellowship at UC Davis, followed by a fellowship in advanced and minimally invasive thoracic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Mahtabifard provides his patients with the most advanced and effective treatments. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He also has made presentations at numerous meetings, including those sponsored by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. He is co-editor of the medical textbook, Atlas of Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery (VATS), for which he has written several chapters. The textbook offers step-by-step instructions in the latest minimally invasive thoracic surgery techniques, which bring faster recovery and improved patient outcomes.
