The Alameda Sun, founded in 2001, is a free weekly community newspaper that's distributed on Thursdays. The Alameda Sun covers Alameda news, events, people and causes. In 2002, the Sun was named Best New Business by the Chamber of Commerce and in 2003 it earned a Shining Star in the Arts from the Alameda City Arts Council. The Sun has also been recognized for public service by the California Newspaper Publishers Association.
