History
The 9:20 Special is San Francisco's premiere Lindy Hop Swing dance party that has been a staple of the San Francisco dance scene since 1998. Originally started by internationally renowned Lindy Hop instructors Paul & Sharon as a practice party for their students, The 9:20 quickly evolved into the most popular spot to go dancing in the Bay Area. Today, The 9:20 Special regularly draws crowds of 200 dancers a week and is known as one of the most friendly, fun, and welcoming dance venues in the Bay Area.

~Group Swing/Lindy Hop lessons every Thursday night followed by a swing dance party with 1930s/40s music in a large, beautiful space! ~Private lessons for individuals, couples, small groups (weddings / first dance, birthday parties) Every Thursday night - learn how to Lindy Hop (the original and most fun type of Swing dancing - really, it's awesome!) at the largest Swing dance venue in SF called The 9:20 Special. No partner or experience needed. Just wear comfy shoes and get ready for a great night of dancing. The 9:20 Special is held in a big, beautiful ballroom on Sutter at Divisadero and is a welcoming, casual (but classy!) and friendly environment. A great place to meet new people and/or go with a group of friends or significant other. We offer 5 classes each Thursday night. Three of the classes are month-long progressive series ranging from Beginner through Intermediate/Advanced. The series begin the first Thursday of the month. If you're not ready to commit to a monthly series then you can join us any Thursday night for our drop-in Taster Class. It's 30 minutes at 9:30pm and is included in the cost of the dance which is $9. The DJ'd dance party is immediately following the class.
