Established in 1983, the Home Builders Institute is a nonprofit workforce development corporation. The institute provides vocational training and employment programs for youths at risk, adult offenders and people with disabilities. It organizes interactive sessions for workers to learn general and residential construction-specific English. The Home Builders Institute offers a variety of training materials, including textbooks, videos and CD-ROMS based on industry standards developed by builders, remodelors and educators. In addition, the institute provides training programs in the fields of carpentry, electrical wiring, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, plumbing and facilities maintenance. It is a member of the National Association of Home Builders. The Home Builders Institute is located in Washington, D.C.
