The Jacksonville Police Department, established in 1964, is a law enforcement agency that provides public safety services. The department employs more than 65 sworn officers and a support staff of over 10 civilians that provides service to approximately 30,000 citizens. It provides around-the-clock patrol, summer bike patrol, crime investigation, accident reporting and traffic management services. The Jacksonville Police Department supports and conducts various neighborhood watch programs and the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which teaches children about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco. The department maintains a support services division that includes the temporary detention facility and records, warrants and training sections. The division also performs employee background investigations on all potential police candidates. The Jacksonville Police Department is located in Jacksonville, Ark.
