History
The library began with American Legion Auxiliary members knocking on doors for book donations. The books were housed in the American Legion Hut and the 1st librarian was hired by the WPA. In 1944 the library joined the Berryville Public Library in becoming a member of the North Arkansas Regional Library System. In 1945 the library moved to the City Hall on the Green Forest Square. It then moved to Springfield Street, in a building that became the police station. The library was once again moved, this time to Main Street, where it was remodeled in 1987. In 1997 the Library Board of Trustees purchased the Green Forest Dry Goods Store, which was originally called Seitz Mercantile. The building was completely renovated and is where the library remains today. The library has purchased the storefront to the east of the library and wishes to expand in the future. Donations toward the effort are always welcome!
