Founded in 1943, Blood Systems, formerly known as Salt River Valley Blood Bank, offers blood components and special services to patients in more than 500 hospitals in over 15 U.S. states. It is one of the oldest and largest blood service providers in the United States. The organization s nonprofit community blood centers include the Blood Centers of the Pacific and United Blood Services. It manages the Blood Systems Research Institute, which administers a range of transfusion-focused programs and conducts research for various emerging infectious diseases. The organization also maintains the BioCARE division, which distributes therapeutic biologicals and recombinant coagulation factors. In addition, it operates Blood Systems Laboratories, which has expertise in high-volume blood donor testing and infectious disease reference work. Blood Systems has an online store that features bags, hats and apparel for men and women.
