Univision-owned KTVW, a television station, broadcasts Spanish language programming from Phoenix. It broadcasts via analog Channel 33 atop South Mountain in Phoenix and simulcasts on low-powered KTVW-CA in Flagstaff, Ariz. The station began operation in September 1979 as Arizona's first full-time Spanish-language television station. KTVW s nightly newscasts, "Noticias 33," are among the top-rated news shows in the market, either English or Spanish. KTVW also operates low-powered KFPH-CA, the TeleFutura station in Phoenix. KTVW and TeleFutura are subsidiaries of Los Angeles-based Univision Communications, a publicly traded company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In addition to the Univision Television Group, Univision owns the Galavisi n cable television network, the TeleFutura broadcast television network, more than 40 radio stations and the Univision and Fonovisa record labels.
