Established in 1937, San Xavier District of Tohono O'odham Nation works to promote self-determination and provide legacy for future generations by guiding, leading and supporting community. It offers informational and educational services in the areas of the protection and preservation of land, water, air, culture, traditions, knowledge, language and vitality of community. The district also employs a cultural language teacher, natural resources technician, groundskeeper, and housing and materials managers. It operates administration council, cultural resources, education, elderly, finance, human resources, water rights, and information and technology maintenance departments. In addition, San Xavier District of Tohono O'odham Nation operates a recreation center that organizes several activities, such as fitness and nutrition classes.
