Phoenix Day School for the Deaf provides education to students who are wholly or partially deaf in Phoenix. The school is approved by the North Central Association, and is a part of Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind. It provides various educational and support services to students in elementary, middle and high schools. The services provided by the school include counseling, communication instruction, audiology, occupational and physical therapies, vocational training, career counseling and transition planning. Its communication instruction services include speech and auditory training, speech reading, augmentative communication, public speaking, reading intervention, pragmatics and communicative competence. The school has library, media, health care and diagnostic centers. It also provides Internet access and American Sign Language classes. Additionally, it offers vocational and career preparation programs through Metro Tech and the East Valley Institute of Technology. It is a member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association, and participates in various sports activities, including football, basketball, track, volleyball and cheerleading.
