History
Painted Desert Trading Company opened it's doors in 1993 on the Navajo Nation in Cameron, AZ. Owners Mark and Janet Shipley had previously managed the historic Tuba Trading Post in Tuba City, and decided to strike out on their own. The company at first was a bead and craft supply dedicated to serving local artisans, but quickly branched out into retailing finished jewelry and crafts. In 1998, they opened a small gallery in downtown Flagstaff and branched out to include Hopi and Zuni art. After two expansions and relocations, the gallery now resides at 18 N San Francisco St.
