HistoryIn 1876, a group of conveyancers met in a small office in Pennsylvania to incorporate one of the world's first title insurance companies, The Real Estate Title Insurance Company of Philadelphia. Later that same year, they issued the first modern title insurance policy and with it an industry was born. We know the company today as Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company. In 1998 Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company joined with Lawyers Title Insurance Company and Transnation Title Insurance Company to become LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc. Since 2008 Commonwealth is a member of Fidelity National Financial, Inc.
