After conducting epilepsy research for one year during graduate school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Aurora, Laura Lehnhoff, MD, knew that she wanted to dedicate her medical career to epilepsy. After medical school, she completed her internship and residency at Barrow Neurological Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, where she gained experience treating a wide range of neurological disorders. Dr. Lehnhoff went on to complete a two-year fellowship in electrophysiology and epilepsy that focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with epilepsy. She also spent half of her fellowship working in the Laboratory for Translational Epilepsy Research under the guidance of David Treiman, MD. During this time she worked to translate basic laboratory discoveries in the field of epilepsy into treatment models and approaches for patients in the clinical setting. As a member of the Barrow epilepsy team, Dr. Lehnhoff evaluates patients in the epilepsy monitoring unit to determine whether they are candidates for epilepsy surgery. She also reads and interprets electroencephalograms, evoked potentials, and intra-operative monitoring studies on patients during neurosurgical operations, and she sees patients on an outpatient basis as well. Dr. Lehnhoff is board certified in neurology with a subspecialty certification in epilepsy by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
