Colorado River in Wellton, AZ is a vital natural resource, originating in the Rocky Mountain region and flowing through Grand Canyon National Park. With its major perennial streams and large spring systems, the river supports various purposes such as irrigation and water supply. However, the availability of water sources within the park is closely related to geologic structure, seasonality, and annual precipitation.
Despite incomplete knowledge of all water sources, a partial inventory conducted in 1979 identified 57 perennial water sources, including streams and seeps, primarily sourced from geologic layers like the Muav limestone. Visitors are encouraged to explore their own connections to this transformative water source, whether through ecology, geology, history, or adventure.
