The Arizona Air National Guard is divided into two units: the 161st Air Refueling Wing in Phoenix and the 162nd Fighter Wing in Tucson, Ariz. Flying an air tanker version of the C-97, the 161st provides normal refueling operations to United States Air Force and other military craft throughout the Western United States. There are more than 140 Air Guard units throughout the U.S. and its territories. While missions vary from unit to unit, some interesting ones include pararescue missions, modular airborne firefighting support, combat communications and air traffic control.
