History
Steamboat Bay is a sheltered inlet on the north coast of Noyes Island, right next to the best fishing spots of SE Alaska. This location made it the ideal location for a salmon cannery in the early 20th century as Alaska's commercial seafood industry developed. The cannery even had its own post office at one time. The old cannery began to decline as commercial fishing regulations changed after Alaska became the 49th state of the U.S. in 1949. There are no roads and no other properties on the island, so there was little opportunity for the cannery to diversify, and eventually it closed its doors. The property was later purchased by the current owners who had a vision for building an exclusive fishing club in the pristine wilderness of Noyes Island. They built a brand new 16 guest artisan hand-crafted lodge right on the bay, and hosted the first guests in 2013. Now the lodge is managed by The Waterfall Group as the premier luxury fishing lodge in Alaska.
