Oomingmak is an Alaskan co-operative that has been offering exquisite Qiviut items since 1969. Owned by around 250 Native Alaskan women from remote coastal villages, each item is hand-knitted with a signature pattern inspired by traditional aspects of village life and Eskimo culture.
Qiviut, the downy-soft underwool from the Arctic musk ox, is shed naturally each spring and is eight times warmer than wool while being extraordinarily lightweight. All items are made from 100% Qiviut in its natural color, and they are as comfortable to wear in warm climates as they are in chilly weather. Qiviut is not scratchy, does not shrink, and can be hand-washed with mild detergent, ensuring its longevity for many years.
