Blood Bank of Alaska is a charitable nonprofit organization providing blood to the sick and injured by volunteer donors. The blood bank provides 24- hour service to more than 20 hospitals in Alaska. It also provides a blood irradiator and blood information system. The blood bank offers a mobile collection unit that includes LIFEmobile van and equipment. The Blood Bank of Alaska is licensed by the Food and Drug Administration and is accredited by the Clinical Lab Improvement Association and the American Association of Blood Banks. It serves various hospitals, such as Valley Hospital, Alaska Regional Hospital, Providence Alaska Medical Center, Central Peninsula General Hospital, Alaska Surgery Center, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Valdez Community Hospital. The blood bank was founded in 1962 and is located in Anchorage, Alaska.
