Back to Home Locally owned and operated, FUN 92.7 WAFN-FM is actively involved in the communities it serves. We serve on the boards of the Child Advocacy Center of Marshall County, the Better Business Bureau of North Alabama, Artists Responding to Students ( ARTS ), and other local groups dedicated to community service. Other organizations we support include Companion Animal Rescue of Arab, Alabama ( CARAA ) ; the Marshall County Natural Hazards Mitigation Committee ; the Marshall County Strategic National Stockpile Planning Team ; and Citizen Corps Council of Marshall County. We also provide special support services to United Way of Marshall County, Madison/Marshall County American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Drug Free Marshall County, Neighborhood Watch, and The Whole Backstage, Last year, FUN 92.7 provided more than $100, 000 in promotional support to numerous civic groups, non-profit organizations and worthy causes by providing free radio advertising, production and dubbing of public service announcements for distribution to other radio stations, cash and in-kind donations. The message reads: "Either you get it, or you don't". WAFN-FM staff members are certified as Citizen Emergency Response Team members. Michael St. John and Susan McKenney are both certified Train the Trainers. Since 2004, FUN 92.7 has provided free tower space and subsidizes the utility costs for the NOAA weather radio transmitter operations in Marshall County broadcasting at 162.525. Our new 499-foot tower at Grassy provides North Alabama with alert information 24 hours a day. FUN 92.7 does not receive any outside funding for this service. It's what good local radio is all about. FUN 92.7 is the only radio station in Marshall County that has alternative power backup at both our transmitter and studio giving us the ability to provide emergency weather information to the area despite conventional power loss. In addition, we provide a direct connection to the Marshall County EMA for immediate information regarding natural disasters and other emergencies.
