The Parks and Recreation Department is operated by the city of Mobile, Ala. It enhances the city s natural beauty; establishes, maintains and protects parks and natural spaces; and coordinates recreational, educational and athletic activities. Its athletic programming division provides coordination for a comprehensive athletic program and facilities utilized by youth and adult participants for safe leisure athletics and physical fitness programs. The Parks and Recreation Department s maintenance services division is responsible for scheduled inspections and maintenance of park facilities, playground equipment, scheduled grounds keeping, mowing activities and aesthetic plantings. It offers a community activities program that involves people in painting, sewing, art and craft making, language instruction, social events, dance and swimming classes, driver s education program, karate and sports activities.
