Phelan Park

Phelan Park, also known as Triangle Park, is a charming neighborhood park located in the Five Points South neighborhood of Birmingham, AL. Established in 1907, the park was named after Ellis Phelan, one of the area's earliest residents. Over the years, the park has undergone improvements, including the construction of a rock wall by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. Despite a decline in the surrounding neighborhood in the 1980s, a successful clean-up effort in the 1990s revitalized the park, which now features a small playground area and a paved plaza with picnic tables. As the centerpiece of the Phelan Park Historic District, the park holds significant historical value and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to its historical significance, Phelan Park is also known for hosting the Phelan Park Music Series, a popular blues concert series sponsored by the neighborhood association, the city, and the Magic City Blues Society.
