Founded in 1992, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute encourages the communication and reconciliation of human rights issues worldwide. The institute also serves as a repository for civil and human rights archives and documents. It is a center that depicts the struggle of the American Civil Rights Movement. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute operates an archives division that collects, keeps and makes accessible records and documents related to events occurred during the civil rights struggle of the 1950's and 1960's in the United States.
