Operational since 1881, the American Red Cross has been one of the leading emergency response organizations in the world. Located in Tuskegee, Ala., it is a part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war. The American Red Cross also aids victims of devastating natural disasters. In addition to domestic disaster relief, the organization offers services in five other areas, including community services; providing support for military members/families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood/blood products; educational programs promoting health/safety; and international relief/development programs.
