Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind, established in 1858, is a comprehensive education and rehabilitation system serving children and adults who are deaf, blind and multidisabled. It serves children of ages 3 to 21 through Alabama School for the Deaf, the Alabama School for the Blind and the Helen Keller School of Alabama, accredited residential programs. The organization s special preschool programs prepare children for learning. Its E.H. Gentry Technical Facility is an accredited two-year technical school, which offers adults with sensory loss a program of evaluation, adjustment and vocational training in different fields. The organization offers various services to public and private school teachers, including providing textbooks and instructional materials for the blind.
