The Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC) is dedicated to the research, study, and understanding of the Holodomor, the catastrophic famine in Ukraine during 1932-33. Established in 2013 with support from the Temerty Foundation, HREC operates as a project of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta, collaborating with scholars and researchers in Canada and Ukraine.
HREC engages in a multifaceted approach through its research and education components, promoting the inclusion of the Holodomor in academic curricula and developing instructional resources for educators. By facilitating conferences, grants, and workshops, HREC aims to enhance critical and historical thinking about this significant event in Ukrainian history.
